Vision Activation Coaching Program Step #5 Vision Alignment

Letting our dreams drift up to the heavens, to give permission to higher forces to co-conspire with us will help lift the burden, and invite support, in forms known and unknown.

It is from here in the coaching process that we take a moment to pause, as we shift from honoring what internal alignment and intention we need to create around our visions and dreams, to aligning with the external forces that can be supportive in our efforts to accelerate our process.

Especially in our western culture, it is so easy to default to believing that our destiny is entirely in our hands, and that if we don’t put in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, demonstrating intense rugged individualism, then we will never reach our desired destination. But I have found that there are so many forces that want to support us, if only we will let them.

For the sake of this “step” in the process, we are going to focus on how we can seek alignment with higher forces. This one has been a tricky one in my own journey. Before we can find trust in something greater than ourselves, often we need to have a season of unpacking our definition of a higher power, and see if we might have absorbed some skewed ideas along the way from our culture, family, or religion.

In my late 20s, a lot of things started unraveling for me, including the religious framework that had served as a significant foundation for my formative years. And it was incredibly unnerving.

I realized that some of my co-dependent patterns of relating, which left me depleted and lonely, had been somehow reinforced by the messages I had received in church communities that I should always put others before myself. And so it felt easy at the time for me to start blaming God for getting me into this “mess.”

As I shifted out of church communities, and pursued support for the early stages of my healing journey, I landed in a different type of community, Al-Anon. This is a fellowship focused on supporting those who have been impacted by the disease of alcoholism.

I arrived with my willful spirit that believed I must heal myself, due to a strong fear or reliance on anything other than myself, but that line of thinking quickly started to break down.

I found some beautiful relief being part of a group that encouraged me to develop my own unique understanding of a higher power, as well as my own approach to staying in touch and in tune with this source of support, guidance, and encouragement. I began to explore meditation and a greater understanding of Eastern Spirituality to compliment my Christian training.

Since this time, I have loved the journey of exposing myself to different techniques and tools for seeking and nurturing a spiritual connection. At this point there are a few different rhythms and rituals that I have found supportive in my daily life.

This includes journaling when I start my day, which often helps me connect with my own higher wisdom, clearing my chakras when I shower to manage my energy field, and periodic gratitude practices that help me remember I am supported and my needs are being met.

I still struggle with anxiety and a spirit of control, but the beautiful thing is now I know the anecdote, and have tools to bring myself back to a place of trusting, relaxing, and receiving. Regularly turning over my desires and wishes, and asking my higher power to show me my part continues to keep me in right order with universal forces.

During our time together, we will take time to reflect on some of your own experiences around defining and connecting with a higher power, and see if there is anything that we want to release and anything we might want to invite, so that you can find more peace and spiritual connectivity in your journey to realizing your vision.

We will explore how it might feel to surrender your hopes and dreams to a force that is bigger than yourself, and see if there is any divine wisdom that wants to be revealed to help you find your way forward.

Some questions I encourage you to reflect on through journaling or conversation before our session include:

  • What definition was I given from my family, culture, religion of a higher power? What aspects of that do I still want to keep and what do I want to release?

  • At this point, how do I want to view my higher power? What do I want to believe about this force in my life?

  • What forces have shaped your current view of spirituality, and how do you feel right now in terms of your spiritual connection?

  • What challenges do I face in trusting and surrendering my future to a higher power, and receiving guidance on life questions or visions?

  • What routines or rituals seem to support you in staying spiritually connected? How can you commit to building those into your life in a consistent and committed way?

If what I am sharing resonates, I encourage you to find time for a virtual coffee here. If I am not the right resource, I would still love to learn a bit about your story, and see if there is another connection point I might be able to point you towards that might help you find your way forward.
