Vision Activation Coaching Program Step #1 Vision Context
The Vision Context part of the journey is about considering what vision might make sense in this moment of your life to dedicate yourself towards, taking into consideration what milestones you have already overcome, and what might feel most alive for you in this very moment.
Sometimes we have achieved certain goals, only to realize it was just a stop along the way, not the end point, which can feel frustrating at times. But it is also important to recognize that all of our efforts to self-actualize, contribute, and live into our purpose are cumulative, and each step gets us farther along in finding the deepest truth that wants to be expressed uniquely through us in this lifetime.
In my own story, if you would have asked me what my dream was in 2019, I would have said I was passionate about stepping out into the world of freelancing, blending my interests in leadership development, human-centered design, consulting, and coaching. My “why” was driven by a desire for freedom, flexibility, and dynamic self-expression.
Shortly after setting out to realize this dream, I landed a contract assignment that I thought was a perfect fit. I would be building leadership training programs for high-growth tech companies, getting to finally experience what it was like to travel for my work.
And yet three months into this new assignment, I was in a hotel room in Reno and well aware of how out of balance my life felt, and that perhaps what I thought I wanted was not actually a fit after all. The honeymoon was over, and I was starting to feel a bit disillusioned.
I observed that there was a lot of ego wrapped up in consulting that did not resonate for me and aspects of the field of leadership development seemed to be more optics than substance. As my spirit felt more unsettled, I was given the gift of being released from my role (which did not quite feel like a gift at the time), due to company downsizing, which opened up the opportunity to use what I had learned to refine my next vision.
After some initial hustling to “find what was next,” I decided to relax and surrender to the flow of what might beckon me forward. This created and amazing unexpected lunch meeting on a road trip that led to a new door opening to travel to Rwanda for a 10-month contract opportunity.
I am so grateful at this point that the door closed on the vision I thought I wanted at the time. Letting go of my original version of my vision helped clear the path for the opportunity to start living and working overseas, which was a dream my 18-year-old self had, but had been unrealized to that point in my adult life. I discovered that sometimes lost dreams find us when we create the space, and can actualize in a short time period.
Other times, our visions take shape with time and steady attention. When I moved to Seattle in 2016, I started imagining that I might want to write a book someday. As I was road tripping out West, I even started writing down topics or life lessons that I might want to share. I had been inspired by authors like Cheryl Strayed, Anne Lamont, and Elizabeth Gilbert, who had interwoven tales of their life with passing along well-earned wisdom.
Memoirs had become one of my favorite genres. And yet I have sensed as I have re-visited this dream that it is not yet time to dedicate myself to this task. But I have been able to pursue some activities to continue to grow my confidence as a writer, and give the dream my energy, a bit at a time.
In 2019 I did the Artist's Way workbook, which was focused on re-connecting with the creative flow in one's life. Morning pages was one of the primary concepts, which encourages three pages of freewriting every morning as soon as you pop out of bed.
For the last 3-4 years, this has become part of my daily practice, as I learn to connect with myself through writing. This has also served as an amazing daily grounding exercise, once I embraced a life of geographic diversity and a more fluid version of “home.”
In Spring of 2022, I decided to sign up for a writing course through Elephant Academy, and get some support for the beginning process of sharing my writings with others. In Summer of 2022, I made a new friend who was on her own writing journey who mentored me through the launch of my newsletter, which I kicked off in September of 2022. These writings were moved over to my blog/website in Spring of 2023.
Sometimes dreams come to life when we have courage to take big leaps, but other times they get to unfold with more ease and grace. We get to each discover the timing of when they are ready for our more undivided attention.
With that in mind, during the Vision Context session we will enjoy some time to discuss the context around what is leading YOU to explore a new vision that might be emerging. What successes, “set-backs,” and unrealized dreams have led you to this moment?
We will share some tea to ground ourselves, and engage with Tarot as a tool to see what your intuition has to say about where you have been, where you are now, and where you might be going.
Some questions that I encourage you to reflect on through journaling or conversation before the session include:
What is a goal or milestone you have reached in recent years that you want to celebrate?
Are there previous visions or goals that are no longer resonating for you anymore that you are ready to release?
Is there a new vision that is emerging now, and what is exciting you about it at this time?
Are there visions that you have had for a while that you sense are not yet ready to be realized (might be more for a future date and time)?
I encourage you to bring a cup of tea, and any items that bring you comfort, or support your connection to spirit and intuition to our time together. Look forward to seeing what wants to be revealed and seeing how we can best support your expansion journey!
If what I am sharing resonates, I encourage you to find time for a virtual coffee here. If I am not the right resource, I would still love to learn a bit about your story, and see if there is another connection point I might be able to point you towards that might help you find your way forward.
